The traditional port-based enterprise firewall, now looking less like a guard and more like a pit stop for Internet applications racing in through the often open ports 80 and 443, is slowly losing out to a new generation of brawny, fast, intelligent firewalls.

Thinking of upgrading to vSphere 4.1?

Just keep in mind that certain changes from older versions should be identified before upgrading to enable a smooth transition. These are just some pointers for what should be thought about from the outset.

As with most new versions of software, there are always simple things that might cause unnecessary pain. The main thing to point out is that if you upgrade your ESX or ESXi hosts to vSphere 4.1 first then you won’t be able to add them to vCenter 4.0.x or older so the best process would be to upgrade vCenter first to 4.1 as this is compatible and supports the current latest version of ESX and ESXi hosts along with the older versions.

How To Install Windows 7 On Your Netbook From A USB Flash Drive

Installing a new operating system on a netbook without a CD/DVD drive should be an easy task thanks to Unetbootin, but when it comes to installing Windows 7, there are a few extra steps that need to be taken before you are able to get the latest Windows OS onto your netbook.
In this guide, we’re going to show you how to create a bootable USB flash drive using either Windows XP or Windows Vista, and then install the files onto the USB and then install Windows 7 onto your Netbook from USB.
You will need one USB flash drive, with a capacity of at least 4GB, a copy of Windows 7, a program to extract the contents of your Windows 7 image file, such as 7-Zip, and a computer running either Windows XP or Vista. Windows XP users will need to download an additional program, MBRWizard.
Before getting started, you need to make sure you can boot your netbook from a USB by going into the BIOS settings. This can be done on most netbooks by hitting F2 as it is starting.
Once you are in the BIOS settings, go to the Boot tab, and ensure that ‘USB HDD’ is included in the Boot priority order list. If it is, you should be able to boot from your USB flash drive.

By now you’ve probably seen the videos on Apple’s site showing the iPad. But those aren’t always indicative of the way it actually works in real life. Luckily, Apple had plenty of iPads in a demo pit area after the event today and we captured some footage of a few applications actually being used.
In the video below see Apple’s new Keynote app (built specifically for the iPad), as well as the new iBooks app, in action. As you can see, the device is very fast. Also note the Apple employee talking about using the iPad to make calls.

How To Make The Best Use Of God Mode In Windows Vista & 7

I don't agree at all with the name God Mode & I'm against the name

In this article I would like to share how to do the god mode hack AND several ways to make better use of the shortcut once created.
Let me first mention that it has been purported that this hack can have adverse effects on a 64 bit Windows Vista system so please don’t attempt this if that is your operating system. If you are not sure if your Vista system is the 64 bit version, just check in the System Information Window which is found in the Control Panel and is called “System.”

Complete guide to XP mode in Windows 7

Windows 7 includes XP Mode. XP Mode is a virtualisation of XP - what you get is a copy of Virtual PC, so you can run it as a completely separate OS. XP lives all nice and safe on your Windows 7 set-up without all the hassle of a multi-boot system.
As well as XP you can install any other PC-compatible OS you like, too. But the big new feature from the marketing angle, and the main reason for its inclusion into Windows 7, is the ability to run XP software that would otherwise throw a fit.
The cynic may sneer that this is a neat way of side-stepping the issue that what was previously Windows-compatible software isn't, and that it is an admission that a real problem exists. That's what a cynic might say.
Vista never really set the corporate market ablaze. Having incompatible apps makes you think twice, even if you do get transparent effects. Hence, XP soldiered on and there are a lot of potential upgrade sales out there. Windows 7 now clears this hurdle.
It's not an ideal solution, providing full XP-compatible support would have been ideal, but this works, and you get all the joy of running multiple virtual operating systems thrown in.
Hang on, though, XP Mode is not a standard part of Windows 7. It's available only for Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions. If you want it you'll need to splash out a little more than your Home Premium Edition. So, what exactly can it do and is it worth it?
